Namibia’s Mountain Bike national champion, Alex Miller who is representing the country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games finished in 31st position in the men’s Mountain Bike event on Monday.

The rescheduled 2020 Olympic Games are currently underway in Tokyo, Japan where team Namibia is competing in five different sport codes – cycling (road and mountain bike), boxing, athletics, swimming (marathon) and rowing.

Miller who made his Olympics debut told Nampa in an interview that the race was really hard in the beginning.

“The heat and humidity played quite a big factor but I had a good start to my race, even though I made a bit of a mistake in the third lap. From there I tried to get a good rhythm and then tried to push as hard as I could – I am fairly happy with the performance,” he said.

The young cyclist said he could have done a little bit better but this being his first Olympics he is happy with the results.

“Even though it was a little bit humid than I would have liked I gave it my all and learned a lot. I would like to give credit to all who have supported me while preparing for this competition and throughout my career,” Miller said.

The winner of the Mountain Bike event, Thomas Pidcock finished the race in a time of one hour, 24 minutes and 14 seconds (01:24:14) while Miller did a time of 1:34:26.

Namibia’s remaining cyclist at the competition, Michelle Vorster will compete in the women’s Mountain Bike event Tuesday morning.
