Okahao: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund) have generously donated eight classrooms to Shaanika Nashilongo Secondary School, located in the Okahao Constituency of the Omusati Region. This donation was made under the MTC Rural Schools Project, with the infrastructure valued at over N.dollars 2 million.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Tim Ekandjo, MTC's Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, highlighted the Rural Schools Project's significant investment, which totals N.dollars 18 million. The project has successfully constructed 61 classrooms, a computer laboratory, an ablution facility, and seven storerooms across 14 regions in the country. Ekandjo further announced plans to extend support to the Erongo Region, thereby completing coverage of all regions before focusing on the areas most in need of educational facilities.
John Haufiku, MVA Fund's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, remarked on the strategic importance of investing in rural schools. He emphasized that such initiatives are not acts of charity but critical investments in the nation's future. Haufiku praised the collaboration with MTC, stating that development is achieved when responsible institutions work together towards common goals.
Okahao Constituency Councillor Leonard Shikulo, speaking on behalf of Omusati Governor Immanuel Shikongo, expressed the impact of the donation. He described the new classrooms as not just physical structures, but spaces of knowledge and opportunity that will reduce overcrowding and enhance the learning environment. Shikulo underscored the significance of partnerships among government, businesses, and communities in national development.
Michael Simeon, the school board chairperson, commended MTC and the MVA Fund for their generous support and unwavering commitment to improving education. He noted that the new classrooms will significantly enhance the teaching and learning conditions for students at the school.
