Oshikoto: The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development (MURD), through the Directorate of Decentralisation Coordination, has begun conducting information and awareness campaigns about decentralisation across all 11 constituencies in the Oshikoto Region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Chief Development Planner at the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Pombili Ipinge, stated that the primary aim of the initiative is to educate and reorient stakeholders on the purpose, progress, and benefits of decentralisation. The campaign is designed to increase awareness of delegated services, clarify access requirements, and promote transparency and accountability in service delivery.
Ipinge highlighted that the ministry seeks to strengthen participation and collaboration among stakeholders at all levels. The initiative aims to bridge information gaps between delegated functions and the public, while enhancing the public's understanding of decentralised functions and services.
Oshikoto Regional Council Chief Regional Officer, Christella Mwenyo, underscored the campaign's significance in reaching community members. She noted that the initiative helps residents understand the delegation of certain functions and services to specific entities. Mwenyo further emphasized the necessity for different sectors of the government to collaborate and coordinate effectively.
The campaign began in the Omuthiya Constituency and is scheduled to conclude next Friday in the Guinas Constituency.
