Namibia will on Saturday host the 2021 Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Elective Congress in Windhoek.

This was announced by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) chairperson, Gerson Bisey Uirab at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Wednesday.

Uirab during a press conference informed the media that the event on 14 May 2022 will be attended by Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe and the organisation’s General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba.

“The Cosafa elective general meeting comes at the right time for the NFA and Namibia as the hosts. On the same token, this meeting will contribute to our tourism industry,” he said.

Uirab revealed that the Namibian government had played a huge role in winning the rights to host the Cosafa elective congress at the Hilton Hotel.

He said the assembly will create breakthrough opportunities for the government, the NC and the NFA secretariat to ensure that Namibia and Botswana deliver an incredible bid for the hosting of the 2027 Afcon with Botswana.

“Corporate Namibia through the private and public sectors will support the government and the NFA in this bid to co-host and watch this premium football competition at home for the first time here,” he added.

Uirab however noted that it was a sad thing that no Namibian would be contesting for any position during this congress because, at the time of nominations, the NFA was not in good standing.

However, the good thing is that Namibia has the voting right and that means they can still influence the outcome of the elections through that vote, he said.

Meanwhile, the Presidency has confirmed that the NC will meet President Hage Geingob at State House on Thursday.

They (NC) will be accompanied by Motsepe and his crew. Discussions will include the joint bid by Namibia and Botswana, the development of football infrastructure, as well as the current state of football in Namibia.
