Gobabis: Namibia's Vice President (VP), Lucia Witbooi, remarked that the Namibian Police Force remains one of the key pillars of the country's democracy and one of the principal institutions where the State fulfils its obligation. Witbooi made this statement at the graduation ceremony of 670 cadet constables held at Gobabis' Legare Sport Complex on Friday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the cadet constables, consisting of 382 females and 288 males, completed their nine months of training in the Omaheke Region at Pius Joseph Kaundu Training Centre. Witbooi emphasized the importance of institutions that safeguard a nation's stability, protect its citizens, and uphold its constitutional order. She praised NamPol's role in ensuring the safety and security of all people living within Namibia's borders, encouraging Namibians to take pride in the country's continued peace and stability.
Witbooi highlighted that the achievement of peace and stability is the result of deliberate efforts by the government, security institutions, communities, traditional leaders, faith-based organizations, civil society, and citizens who collaborate to protect social harmony and national unity. She stressed that peace and security are foundational elements for development, economic growth, investment, job creation, social justice, and national prosperity.
Further, the Vice President pointed out that without security, development cannot thrive, and progress becomes challenging in the absence of law and order. She noted that the responsibilities the graduates will undertake are directly connected to Namibia's broader national aspirations.
Witbooi also mentioned that the government continues to invest in strengthening the capacity, professionalism, and effectiveness of security institutions as part of nation-building and sustainable development. She addressed the graduates, stating that their uniforms symbolize more than authority; they represent the public trust and confidence that citizens place in them to protect lives, safeguard property, uphold justice, and defend the nation's values.
In conclusion, Witbooi commended the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, particularly NamPol, and all training personnel for their sustained efforts to enhance professionalism within the police force.
