Namport hands over chairs and desks to three Rundu schools

The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) through its social investment fund donated chairs and desks valued at N.dollars 150 000 to three schools at Rundu here on Monday.

The three schools are Sarasungu Combined School, Alois Ashipara Junior Primary School, and Mbambangandu Junior Primary School.

Corporate Communications Officer of Namport, Taná Pesat during the official handing over of the desks to the Directorate of Education in the Kavango East Region said the ports authority has always played an active role in supporting the education fraternity across the country and further strengthened its stance in 2017 when the Ministry of Education introduced the Friends in Education initiative.

“For the past 15 years, Namport has reached out to Namibian communities through its Social Investment Fund, established on four values of entrepreneurial and SME development, health, education and environment.

Kavango East Education Director Fanuel Kapapero while expressing gratitude for the contribution Namport made towards education, said with the vast resources the country has, no learner should sit on the floor in a classroom.

The future of the country, he said is in the hands of the learners before stating that the best investment anyone can make is in education.

On his part Governor of the region, Bonny Wakudumo said the donation will help assist educators in the endeavour of delivering effective learning and teaching.

He said the region is still faced with many challenges such as the teacher-learner ratio and the need to improve education tools in schools.
