Windhoek: The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) and the National Youth Service (NYS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday, focusing on enhancing youth training and promoting national development.
According to Namibia Press Agency, NamRA Commissioner Sam Shivute stated that the agreement between the two institutions aims to prepare young recruits through a mix of academic instruction and structured national service training. The collaboration is part of a whole-of-government strategy to ensure collective efforts in advancing national goals, particularly in youth empowerment and economic development.
Shivute highlighted that NamRA recruits designated for roles in customs, taxation, and border security would receive both technical training and physical conditioning at the NYS. This approach is intended to foster discipline, patriotism, and resilience among the recruits. He emphasized the need for training to encompass more than just academics, incorporating discipline, courage, and a strong sense of duty to serve the country.
NYS Commissioner, Dr. Felix Musukubili, described the MoU as a significant milestone, aligning with the organization's core mission to transform young people into disciplined and patriotic citizens. Musukubili mentioned that the NYS plans to offer structured programs, including a proposed three-month training course for new NamRA recruits, focusing on discipline, teamwork, and national unity. The training will cover physical endurance, civic education, and ethical conduct, preparing recruits for public service roles.
The agreement also aims to enhance employment opportunities for young people, with NamRA indicating a willingness to consider graduates from the national service database for future recruitment. Both commissioners underscored the importance of effective implementation and regular partnership reviews to achieve tangible results.
This initiative is projected to contribute to the development of a disciplined and skilled workforce, addressing youth unemployment and enhancing service delivery in Namibia.
