Local football club players, Lionel Ruth, Godwin Eiseb and Tuli Nashoxwa, said the experience gained at the senior national football team is one they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

This follows their selection by senior national football team coach, Collin Benjamin, to the Under-19 squad currently preparing for the upcoming Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup set for Durban, South Africa in July 2022.

Ruth and Eiseb are from the Kaizen Football Academy (KFA), while Nashoxwa is from the Ramblers Football Academy.

In an interview with Nampa on Tuesday, Ruth said training with senior players has gone well and the atmosphere is brilliant.

“The older guys are giving us instructions and they make us feels like we belong, which is a good thing since we are rookies,” said Ruth who added that there is no club or football team bigger than the national team and he was over the moon to be called up to the national team.

Nashoxwa who plays for the Ramblers Football Academy said being called up to the national team is an honour for himself as well as his family.

“We are here to learn and I am not going to push or force myself to be in the national team but I will take it one step at a time and gradually become a regular, based on my performance,” said Nashoxwa.

Meanwhile, Eiseb told this agency that not having active club football for two years was tough but when he got a call to join the senior national football team he screamed his lungs out of excitement.

“I was shocked and happy to see that I am in the national team. I am going to push so that I can still come back to the national team,” said Eiseb who added that he is learning from the best in the team.

The three players said there is no pressure on them to impress at the moment but they are open to acquiring more knowledge of the game.

The national team coach will be announcing his final 23 men’s squad for COSAFA at the end of this week as he expects the team to travel for its final preparation in South Africa by the end of the week.
