Windhoek: Former international footballer Alfred Ndyenge, who was appointed to the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) Africa New Member Development Committee last week, has pledged to champion local players' welfare.According to Namibia Press Agency, Ndyenge was selected to serve on the committee at the FIFPRO Africa General Assembly held in Nairobi, Kenya. The FIFPRO Africa New Member Development Committee is the specialised division within FIFPRO Africa dedicated to expanding, building, and supporting emerging player unions across the continent.In a statement seen by Nampa, Ndyenge said: 'I am deeply honoured and humbled by the confidence shown in me by this committee to help champion and revive players' welfare initiatives in Namibia.' The former professional footballer added that he experienced both the opportunities and challenges that players face on and off the field.'This appointment presents an opportunity to ensure that Namibian footballers have a stronger voice, bet ter representation, and access to support systems that protect their rights and welfare,' Ndyenge said. He stated that his vision is further to work closely with all stakeholders, including current and former players, clubs, football administrators, sponsors, and international partners.The prime focus, he said, will be to build a sustainable players' welfare structure to address key areas such as contractual protection, career development, education, health and wellness, financial literacy, and post-career opportunities. He stated that Namibia has produced exceptional football talent over the years, and it is now time to create an environment where players can thrive professionally while being adequately protected throughout their careers and beyond.'I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the FIFPRO Africa leadership for their trust and support. Together, we will work tirelessly to strengthen the welfare and representation of players in Namibia and contribute positively to the growth of football across the country,' he said. Ndyenge will be tasked with setting up an interim committee. Assisted by the FIFPRO Africa new member committee, this group will be responsible for building the framework required to meet FIFPRO standards for registration and official office setup.
