Windhoek: The new Board of Trustees of the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) was officially inaugurated by Minister of Education Sanet Steenkamp on Tuesday. The board has been tasked with stabilizing and strengthening the institution's governance framework.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the board was originally appointed on 15 September 2025 and is responsible for overseeing an institution that plays a critical role in Namibia's skills development ecosystem, particularly in mining, engineering, and industrial training. The board is chaired by Lisho Mundia, with Brumilda Britz as Deputy Chairperson, and includes members Gabrielle Schneider, Ralph Bussel, Presley Kamuvi, Nahum Namukwambi, Meriam Namukwambi, Hilya Ndamonomhata Ndilula, Meriam Silishebo, and Godfried Kandingua.

During the ceremony in Windhoek, Steenkamp emphasized that this inauguration marked a new era characterized by strong administration. She stated, "The inauguration of this new Board of Trustees signals not merely a change in leadership, but the beginning of a new chapter, one defined by strengthened oversight, accountability, and long-term sustainability in an institution of strategic national importance."

Steenkamp outlined her expectations, urging the board to act with diligence and integrity to ensure that NIMT achieves full operational and governance compliance. She also warned against infighting or personal agendas, encouraging collaboration over their five-year term.

Lisho Mundia, speaking on behalf of the board, affirmed their commitment to the government's 'business unusual' approach. He acknowledged that while differences might arise, they should strengthen teamwork and not undermine unity or mutual respect. "We'll definitely step on each other's toes. But as we step on each other's toes, it shouldn't be personal... and that is how we should function," Mundia stated.
