Windhoek: Namibia's World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global flyweight champion Fillemon Nghutenanye retained his title on Sunday morning with a fifth-round technical knockout victory over Berland Robles of the Philippines at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian boxer continued his professional career positively, successfully defending his title at Salute Boxing Promotions' 'Building of Champions: Battle for Greatness Boxing Bonanza'. The event, organized by MTC Salute Boxing Academy, featured Nghutenanye, known as 'The One', facing a Filipino opponent for the second time in eight months.
Nghutenanye and Robles faced a delay of an hour due to contractual issues, as reported by inside sources. The match itself was intense, with the first four rounds thrilling the audience. However, Robles' corner decided against continuing into the fifth round, resulting in Nghutenanye's technical knockout victory. This win enhances Nghutenanye's professional record to 15 victories, including seven knockouts, one defeat, and two draws.
Post-fight, Nghutenanye expressed satisfaction with retaining his title, stating he had begun finding his rhythm when the match concluded. Promoter Kiriat Kamanya emphasized the ongoing development of Nghutenanye, aiming for a world title challenge in the future.
In supporting bouts, Abed Shikongo swiftly defeated Malawi's Israel Kamwamba with a single punch in their welterweight contest. Jonathan Kasheeta claimed the WBO Africa bantamweight title by defeating Tanzania's Ally Ngwando in the sixth round, having overcome an initial knockdown in the first round.
Nathanael Kakololo returned to the ring with a points victory over Josef Abel in a six-round welterweight contest, while Merven Nguno impressed with a points win against Abraham Petrus in a junior welterweight bout. Erasmus Hifivali and David Egumbo also went the distance, with Egumbo securing a points victory.
Additionally, Moongela Elias triumphed over Jonas Erastus in their junior bantamweight contest, adding another win to his record at the After School Centre in Katutura.
