Omaheke: Omaheke Regional Council Chairperson, Rocco Nguvauva, has welcomed the hosting of this year's Miss Namibia and Miss Teen pageants in the region, saying both events will stimulate local economic activity through increased demand for services.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Miss Teen Namibia will take place on 31 July, while the Miss Namibia pageant is set for 01 August 2026, with both taking place in Gobabis. Nguvauva, in an interview with Nampa, said the recent announcement by the organiser, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), presents a meaningful opportunity for the region to showcase its cultural richness, social diversity, and economic potential.

'I appreciate the NBC's decision to bring the country's elite beauty pageants to Omaheke. As a region known for its strong traditions, vibrant heritage, and peaceful coexistence of diverse communities, Omaheke stands ready to welcome visitors, participants, and stakeholders with warmth and pride,' he said.

Nguvauva added that hosting the events will not only celebrate the empowerment of women, but will also elevate the visibility of local arts, crafts, and tourism sites. From a socio-economic perspective, the beauty pageants are expected to stimulate local economic activity through increased demand for accommodation, catering, transport, entertainment, and small business services, while positioning Omaheke as a viable destination for future national events, conferences, and tourism investment.

It will also provide a platform for youth inspiration and community participation aligned with the regional development goals, he added. The chairperson further said the collaboration between the pageant organisers, media houses, local authorities, and community stakeholders will strengthen partnerships that are essential for sustainable regional growth.

'Such engagements promote unity, cultural exchange, and a shared vision for inclusive development across the country,' he said. Established in 1980, the Miss Namibia pageant serves to empower young Namibian women, promote tourism, and drive social impact.
