The Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) is set to resume on Saturday following the release of the round eight and nine fixtures for the upcoming weekend.

Headlining the round eight fixtures will be the match between second-placed Life Fighters and log leaders African Stars at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo on Saturday.

This match promises to be a humdinger as both clubs are yet to lose a single match, with ‘Starlile’ only drawing once, while ‘The Purple Nation’ has drawn twice after seven rounds of matches.

Both clubs have recorded significant victories as Stars won two matches against Tura Magic and the University of Namibia (UNAM) while Fighters overcame African Lions and Outjo Academy.

Others matches on Saturday will see Blue Waters face Orlando Pirates (OP) and Eleven Arrows play Tigers at Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay.

Civics will clash with Okahandja United at Khomasdal Stadium, while Citizens will face Mighty Gunners at the Nau-aib Stadium.

In Rundu, Julinho Sporting will face Young Brazilians as Young African (YA) clash against UNAM at Legare Stadium in Gobabis.

At UNAM Stadium, Black Africa (BA) will face Katutura rivals Tura Magic to complete the day’s fixtures.

On Sunday, Arrows and Waters will swap opponents as the former clash with OP and the latter face Tigers.

In Okahandja, Citizens will play against Okahandja United, with Civics welcoming Mighty Gunners at Khomasdal Stadium.

In Otjiwarongo, Fighters will battle it out with Brazilians, while Stars will be up against Julinho in Rundu.

At UNAM, the students will welcome BA while YA will face Magic in Gobabis to complete the round nine fixtures.

Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, NPFL administrator Mabos Vries said everything was set for the league to resume action.

“The biggest challenges are stadiums, especially in the capital where 50 per cent of the clubs are from. Currently, we have Khomasdal and UNAM Stadium, but SKW Stadium will be available in February. We are anticipating using Independence Stadium soon,” he said.

Vries added that the bulk of the elite referees hail from the north, costing the league a lot of money, while the number of referees is also not ideal.

Vries called on football fans to attend local matches, saying the league is competitive and exciting.
