Windhoek: The One Economy Foundation successfully raised N.dollars 3,422,900 during its 10th anniversary fundraising dinner held under the theme 'A decade of weaving legacy and stitching futures'. The event took place in Windhoek on Thursday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Saddam Biwa, Head of Operations at One Economy Foundation, announced the total amount raised at the event, emphasizing the importance of the collective contributions. Biwa expressed gratitude to the donors, stating, "We take this moment to announce the total for the night, the seeds you've sown for the night, as well as for One Economy, the Be Free Youth Campus, and the Be Free Movement collectively - N.dollars 3,422,900. Thank you for being partners with us and continuing this journey with us."
The top seven corporate pledgers included FirstRand Foundation, Novanam Foundation, Capricorn Foundation, Debmarine Foundation, China Town Prop, Standard Bank, and B2Gold. Former First Lady and Executive Chairperson of the foundation, Monica Geingos, highlighted in her keynote address that the foundation has raised N.dollars 100 million over the past decade. She noted that more than half of this amount was invested in infrastructure and equipment.
Geingos underscored the foundation's focus on supporting young people and assured accountability for every dollar received. She stated, "We have unqualified audited opinions. For many of you that doesn't mean much, but for us as a non-profit, there's always a challenge of revenue recognition as a non-profit."
Geingos also announced her future plans, which include setting up the Hage Geingob Presidential Library with former Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof Peter Katjavivi. She affirmed her commitment to the foundation, saying, "I am a coach, not a player. We cannot all be players. There are things that once you see them you can't unsee them, and you feel compelled to stay. So, I'll always be part of the One Economy Foundation for as long as you'll have me."
