Otjiwarongo local authority councillor Lee-Anne Liebenberg died in hospital at Otjiwarongo on Wednesday.

The town’s mayor, Gottlieb Shivute, in an interview with Nampa on Thursday said the 49-year-old Liebenberg was admitted to the local private hospital three weeks ago after she tested positive for COVID-19.

“The municipality has lost a zealous person and a committed councillor who believed in justice for all. We are all reeling in shock,” said Shivute.

Liebenberg served the municipality on the ticket of the Independent Patriots for Change and she was an additional member of the municipality’s management committee.

Of the other six town councillors, four are from the Swapo Party and one each from the Landless People’s Movement and Popular Democratic Movement.

The councillors were sworn in in December 2020.
