Otjiwarongo:The Otjiwarongo Municipality has announced the official start of plot allocations at the newly developed Extensions 24 and 25, located southeast of the town along the B1 road towards Okahandja.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Senior Housing and Property Officer Sakaria Namhindo stated that approximately 60 plots have already been sold. These new suburbs offer a total of 438 plots designated for residential, business, industrial, and institutional use, each priced at N$23,000. Plot sizes range from 300 to 800 square meters, developed in partnership with Development Workshop Namibia to assist low-income earners.
The new extensions feature compacted roads, access to clean drinking water, and come with title deeds. The municipality is in discussions with the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) to provide electricity. However, financial challenges remain in connecting these plots to the sewerage network, prompting a call for government funding to support this infrastructure.
Additionally, the municipality seeks further funds for land servicing, as the waiting list includes 7,800 applicants who are to be accommodated adjacent to the new extensions. Chief Executive Officer Mberipura Hifitikeko mentioned ongoing construction of a new water reservoir near Extensions 24, aiming to expand the town's water capacity by an additional three million liters at a cost of nearly N$16 million.
New residents like Jeffrey Kamonde and Cathleen Useb have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to own plots, with Kamonde noting it will provide a home for his six children, and Useb planning to build a house for her family.
