Otjiwarongo:Heads of government ministries in the Otjozondjupa Region convened in Otjiwarongo to discuss reviving the region's road safety forum, which has been inactive.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Commissioner Philip Hidengwa of the Namibian Police Force in Otjozondjupa led the meeting, emphasizing the urgency due to the high number of road accidents in the area.
The forum, led by the NamPol regional commander's office, will focus on ensuring road safety, particularly on the B1 road stretching from Okahandja through Otjiwarongo to Otavi. The management committee will include a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, vice-secretary, treasurer, and vice-treasurer.
Government ministries will appoint representatives to the forum, with each member serving a two-year term. The names of the appointed forum members will be released next Tuesday.
The forum is set to be officially launched by the acting NamPol Inspector-General, Major-General Anna-Marie Nainda, by the end of the month, with full operations expected to resume by November, in anticipation of the festive season.
