Moscow: Russian legend Alexander Ovechkin did not rule out the possibility of playing for Dynamo Moscow after the end of his contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), president of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Alexei Morozov said on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, on Saturday night, Ovechkin scored a double in the match against Chicago (5-3) and reached the mark of 894 goals in his career, repeating the record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky. On Sunday, the 39-year-old Russian scored a goal against the New York Islanders (1-4). The striker brought the total number of goals in the regular NHL championships to 895, becoming the sole record holder of the league.
“We talked to him about this last summer, Sasha was interested in the affairs of the KHL, what was happening with the salary cap. He did not rule out the possibility of playing for his hometown club after the end of his NHL contract. How much was not discussed, but how much health would allow. We have many examples when players came to the KHL after the NHL and were pleased with their creative actions in matches. We will only be happy if our viewers can admire Ovechkin’s game,” Morozov told a press conference following a meeting of the KHL board of directors.
