Swakopmund: Health officials in Swakopmund, located in the Erongo Region, have successfully traced 44 contacts following the confirmation of a single Mpox case recorded last Friday. The Ministry of Health and Social Services spokesperson, Walters Kamaya, provided an update on the situation on Tuesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kamaya detailed that among the 44 contacts traced, five individuals are classified as high risk, three as medium risk, and 21 as low risk. The classification of the remaining 15 contacts is still pending. Kamaya emphasized that the patient is currently in a stable condition and urged the public to maintain good hygiene practices to prevent further spread of the virus.
Kamaya also noted that the confirmed Mpox case has been linked to cross-border travel within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Mpox is mainly transmitted from human to human, presenting symptoms such as headaches, muscle and back aches, chills, and a rash that typically appears within one to five days after other symptoms emerge.
