Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Monday challenged her Cabinet to 'hit the ground running' in 2026 and to recommit to accelerating the implementation of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6). Addressing the opening of the first Cabinet meeting of the year at State House, Nandi-Ndaitwah warned members of the executive that time was no longer on the side of the eighth administration.According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah reminded members of the Cabinet that only four years remain of the five-year mandate entrusted to the current administration to advance and realise Vision 2030. 'Time is therefore not on our side. Every day, every hour, and every decision must count. We must utilise time prudently and decisively in pursuit of results-based, effective service delivery by implementing all our decisions,' she said.Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that ministers were not merely returning to routine work but responding to a renewed call of duty, adding that 2026 required increased focus, disc ipline, and unity of purpose. 'It is a year in which we must once again hit the ground running. We need to recommit ourselves to speeding up the implementation of the NDP6 and ensuring clear, measurable progress across its four pillars. The expectations from our people placed on this Government and Cabinet are high, and rightly so. The responsibility rests squarely on our shoulders to ensure that every Namibian is cared for, and that each citizen is allowed to live a dignified and meaningful life,' the President said.Meanwhile, the head of state reminded members of the executive to lead by example and care for the nation. 'As leaders entrusted with the affairs of the State, we are expected to lead by example in everything that we do. Wherever we go, whether in our official or personal capacities, we are seen and judged as leaders. We must maintain a listening ear and a watchful eye, remaining closely attuned to the realities faced by our people on the ground. Our leadership must be guided by empathy and a d eep understanding of the lived experiences of the Namibian people,' Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
