Auckland: A Qantas flight from Sydney to Auckland safely landed at Auckland Airport after the pilots issued a mayday call due to warnings of a potential fire in the cargo hold.

According to Namibia Press Agency, emergency services were alerted at 11:05 a.m. local time following reports of a possible fire onboard the Boeing 737. The aircraft, designated as Flight 141, landed safely shortly before midday. Passengers disembarked without incident as authorities ensured their safety. Sixteen fire trucks and ambulances were on standby as the plane approached the airport.

Qantas confirmed that the pilots received "intermittent indication about potential fire in the cargo hold" and followed standard safety procedures, which included issuing the mayday alert. A preliminary investigation suggested there was no fire in the front cargo hold, and Qantas stated that its engineers would inspect the plane to determine the cause.

The incident caused a brief disruption at Auckland Airport, leading to minor delays for some arriving and departing flights into the afternoon.
