Windhoek: The late President Hage Geingob's legacy, felt even two years after his departure, remains central to Namibia's social transformation history, as described by those who worked closely with him.According to Namibia Press Agency, reflecting on Geingob's legacy, former Cabinet Secretary George Simataa stated that the final moments of President Geingob's life, as well as the time leading up to his funeral and burial, were profoundly emotional and humbling for all Namibians, particularly for those close to him."There was a profound sense of loss, not only at a personal level but also at a national level. During the funeral, one could feel the collective grief of the Namibian people, a people mourning not just a president but a father of the nation who had walked with them through struggle, independence, and nation-building," he said. He mentioned that for many Namibians, Geingob was a symbol of resilience, dignity, and hope."The outpouring of emotion from young people, elders, workers, and leaders alike showed how deeply he had touched the nation," he added. Simataa stated that Geingob's passing imparted a significant lesson to the nation, highlighting the transient nature of life and the necessity of equipping institutions, leadership, and society to persist beyond individual leaders.Additionally, Simataa characterised Geingob's legacy as one that emphasised the significance of inclusive governance, ensuring that no Namibian is left behind, irrespective of their background.Chief Inspector Joseph Kudumo, a long-serving bodyguard and personal assistant to Geingob, praised his diligent and caring service, depicting him as compassionate and enduring, especially towards the less fortunate. "Geingob was a compassionate individual; I clearly remember when we used to donate cattle to at least five families at the end of each year in the Otjozondjupa and Oshikoto regions. Similarly, he would provide N.dollars 30,000 to Agra every month from his own funds to purchase food for vulnerable families," he stated .Kudumo stated that Geingob's position on tribalism will continue to resonate throughout Namibia, as evidenced by his administration. "He opposed tribalism and racism, which he showed by ensuring that he included people from all walks of life in his services," he added. He further mentioned that Geingob's legacy will continue to influence social and economic transformational narratives, noting that he will always remember him for how he treated his people with care, respect, and understanding.
