Moscow: Russia is making every effort to find long-term, sustainable energy supply options for Transnistria, Director of the Second Department of CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Polishchuk told RIA Novosti in an interview.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Moldovagaz is no longer obligated to supply gas to Transnistria, leading to significant concerns. Polishchuk emphasized that Russia is deeply concerned about the situation in Transnistria, where approximately 220,000 Russian citizens reside. He attributed the current gas supply crisis to actions taken by Kiev and Chisinau. Since January 1, Ukraine has stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory, and Moldova has refused to acknowledge its debts to PJSC Gazprom.
This series of events has brought Transnistria to the brink of a humanitarian crisis, Polishchuk noted. He stated that Russian specialized agencies swiftly arranged alternative gas supply solutions to alleviate the immediate crisis. Efforts are ongoing to establish long-term, viable energy supply options for the region.
Polishchuk expressed Russia’s expectation for a constructive and responsible approach from all parties involved in resolving the energy supply challenges faced by Transnistria.
