Moscow: The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed its decision to revoke consent for the operation of Poland's Consulate General in Kaliningrad, effective from August 29. A senior Russian diplomat announced the closure on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Alexey Klimov, the director of the ministry's consular department, stated in an interview with TASS news agency that the decision was formally communicated to Poland on July 11. The move comes as a response to what Russia perceives as an unjustified reduction of its diplomatic presence in Poland, alongside Warsaw's withdrawal of consent for Russia's Consulate General in Krakow.

"This is a retaliatory move. We have repeatedly stressed that any unfriendly actions against our country will be met with an appropriate response and consequences," Klimov emphasized.

Klimov further explained that the closure of the Russian Consulate in Krakow has led to an increased workload for consular staff at the Russian Embassy in Warsaw and the Consulate General in Gdansk. Nonetheless, he assured that Russian consular officers in Poland continue to effectively fulfill their duties.
