Moscow: The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over the deaths of six civilians in the settlement of Guevo in the border area of the Kursk Region as a result of the Ukrainian armed forces attack, spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the investigation established the fact of targeted shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces of civilians, at the time of their evacuation in April 2025, resulting in the death of six people. A criminal case has been opened into the acts of looting and terrorism committed by the Ukrainian armed forces against the civilian population of the Kursk Region under specific clauses of the Russian Criminal Code.
One of the residents told the investigators that in March his father and uncle died as a result of an explosion of a bomb, planted by the Ukrainian armed forces. He added that the Ukrainian military personnel had dropped explosives on residential buildings using drones and looted houses.
During the preliminary investigation, all representatives of the Ukrainian troops involved in these crimes will be identified and brought to justice, Petrenko stated. On Tuesday, the Russian armed forces regained control of Guevo and hoisted the Russian flag over the settlement.
On August 6, 2024, Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia and launched an offensive in the Kursk Region. Over the past weeks, the Russian military has intensified the counteroffensive and regained control of numerous settlements, including the border town of Sudzha.
