The Swapo Party has once again been declared the Ndonga Linena Constituency winner after ballot papers were recounted as ordered by the Electoral Court on 13 September 2021.
ECN Chief Electoral Officer Theo Mujoro announced on Thursday after the recount, that Swapo candidate Kampota Michael Shiwana garnered 1 094 votes followed by All People’s Party candidate Djami Balthazar Daniel with 1 074. Popular Democratic Movement’s Shipapo Kassian Kayeya got 146 votes, while Independent Patriots for Change’s Kashera Patrick Shiyemo received 72.
A total 2 386 votes were counted for Ndonga Linena. Twenty ballots were rejected.
The Electoral Court on 13 September ruled that the results of the Regional Council Elections for the Ndonga Linena Constituency in Kavango West by the ECN on 27 November 2020 is declared null and void. Consequently, ECN was ordered by the court to conduct a recount in accordance with the provisions of Electoral Act No. 5 of 2014.
“The successful completion of the recount exercise bears testimony to Namibia’s robust electoral system and the ECN’s commitment to upholding the values of transparency, professionalism and integrity. The commission, through its chairperson, extends its gratitude to all the presiding officers, political party agents and the Namibian Police for ensuring a transparent and credible recounting process,” said Mujoro.
