Triathlon team finishes ninth at Commonwealth Games

The Namibian mixed relay triathlon team ended ninth out of 12 teams that competed in the mixed team relay final in the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Drikus Coetzee, Imke Jagua, Jean-Paul Burger and Anri Krugel made up the first Namibian team to compete in the mixed relay triathlon, which took place at Sutton Park in Birmingham.

The team finished 13 minutes and 44 seconds behind the winning Team England, who completed the race in one hour, 16 minutes and 40 seconds (01:16:40).

The Namibian team was in ninth position with a time of 1:30:24.

The triathlon sporting events ended on Sunday with the mixed team relay. Coetzee, Burger and Krugel will now turn their attention to their respective events, which are the road cycling and time trial.

The individual time trial will be held on 04 August, while the road race takes place on 07 August 2022.

After three days of competition at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Team Namibia has thus far won a bronze medal. Helalia Johannes finished third in the women’s marathon to win Namibia’s first medal.

During the last Commonwealth Games held in Australia in 2018, Namibia won two gold medals.
