Kavango west: Two pedestrians have died in separate road accidents in the Kavango West Region, prompting police to urge drivers to observe traffic signs and remind all road users of their responsibility when crossing or using public roads. The first incident occurred on Monday evening at around 20h00 on the B10 road at Rupara village when a Quantum minibus with registration number N 16000 SH struck a pedestrian who was reportedly lying on the road.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kavango West Police Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was heading to Oshakati from Rundu at the time of the incident. The deceased, identified as Julius Kamakende Nzaro, an adult male from Rupara village, died instantly, and his body was taken to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary for autopsy. The 25-year-old Namibian male driver was charged with culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving.
Muronga added that the second incident happened at Karangana village on Tuesday, when a Toyota seven-seater with registration N357NK hit a pedestrian, at approximately 11h10. It is alleged that the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was on his way back home to Mukekete village from Nkurenkuru at the time of the incident. The deceased, eight-year-old Alex Mangundu from Karangana village, died on the spot, and his body was taken to the Nkurenkuru mortuary. The 27-year-old male driver faces similar charges of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving.
Both families have been notified, and police investigations are ongoing.
