Two elderly men were burned beyond recognition when the shack they were sleeping in caught fire at Okamatapati in the Okakarara Constituency on Monday.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Tuesday told Nampa the deceased have been identified as Gottlieb Kosab, 89, and 83-year-old Tsauseb Kambuta.

“They resided in the shack made of zinc sheets which caught fire on Monday around 23h0,” Mbeha said.

Residents of the village tried to extinguish the fire but did not succeed as the shack was completely engulfed by flames, she said.

The relatives of the deceased have been informed.

Mbeha said no foul is suspected and police investigations continue.
