The Vietnamese community living in South Africa on Monday donated 40 000 face masks to Namibia through the Namibia High Commissioner’s office to South Africa.

Receiving the donated masks, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said the fact that the Vietnamese community in South Africa has made such a generous donation is reflective of the strong bond of friendship and solidarity that exists between Namibia and Vietnam and its people, dating back to the years when Vietnam rendered material and political support to the Namibian struggle for freedom and independence.

“To the government and the fraternal people of Vietnam, please accept the appreciation of the government and people of Namibia for this most welcome donation, which will go a long way in our efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Namibia,” said Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The Universal Safety Products Company also donated 15 500 face masks while Defy Appliances donated four ventilators, also through the Namibian High Commission to South Africa.

In the same vein, Nandi-Ndaitwah thanked the ministry of health and all frontline workers who continue to render heroic services to the people of Namibia, in the fight against the further spread of COVID-19.

“We have received generous donations from various countries, which have a positive impact on our overwhelmed health system and this has greatly been a reality due to the dedication and hard work of our diplomatic missions abroad,” she added.
