The second Women in Media Conference, with the theme ‘Alike in So Many Ways’, will be held on Saturday in the capital, with the goal of building a strong network among Namibian women working in the media and corporate sectors.

The conference’s goal is to help women in media gain more access to representation, content and opportunities in the industry.

Speaking to Nampa ahead of the conference, its organiser, Limba Mupetami, said that the second edition will be very different from the first because they have included women from the corporate sector as well.

Mupetami added that both groups face the same challenges because they are so similar.

“I believe we all face similar challenges. Let’s talk about them and figure out how we can help each other succeed in these two industries,” she said.

Furthermore, she stated that some of the key points to be discussed at the conference will focus on creating a positive work environment for women in media, and that young women entering the industry should feel comfortable reaching out if they require assistance or guidance on how to approach sources. They should also be able to approach experts in the same field without fear of rejection.

The keynote speaker will be renowned journalist and editor, Gwen Lister.

Menesia Muinjo, Chief News and Programming Officer at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, Paulina Elago, Secretary for the Southern African Customs Union Secretariat, veteran journalist Nomhle Kangootui, and Selma Kaulinge, Manager for Communications and Public Relations at Nedbank Namibia, are among the other speakers.
