A female Unam student commits suicide in Eros residential area by hanging herself

WINDHOEK: A female University of Namibia (Unam) student allegedly committed suicide in the Eros residential area of the capital by hanging herself on Thursday morning at around 06h45.

The Namibia Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi told the media today the incident occurred in Olof Palme Street.

He said the deceased, 22-year-old Lucia Mwaalwa Ndinelago Kaunamwene, did not leave a suicide note behind, thus the motive for the suicide was not known.

Her next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.

In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man also allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the Havana informal settlement, south of the Havana Primary School.

Kanguatjivi said the incident was reported to the police on Saturday, and it is not clear when Elifas Tuhafeni Shikongo committed the act.

No suicide note was found, and his next of kin have been informed.
