MCA Namibia handed over 74 water points to Namibian communities in eight regions over three years

WINDHOEK: The Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Namibia handed over 74 water points to Namibian communities in eight regions over three years, the MCA-Namibia Director of Agriculture announced yesterday.

Helmke Sartorius von Bach revealed this during the launch of a 35-page report titled “Community-based Rangeland and Livestock Management (CBRLM) sub-activity: Water Infrastructure provided in CBRLM grazing areas”.

MCA-Namibia spent about N.dollars 27 million to drill new boreholes, upgrade waterpoint installations and pipelines, construct dams as well as install solar and diesel pumps over the past three years.

The beneficiary communities are from the Kunene, Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Kavango West, Kavango East and Otjozondjupa regions.

Among the 74 water points, 39 are new, while the rest were existing water points which were upgraded.

Von Bach said the livestock watering points now allow 400 cattle to drink within an hour.

Also, 1 290 livestock-owning households have benefitted, with a total of 28 100 cattle and 22 700 small livestock.
