Salif Keita to Perform At Jazz Festival

Salif Keita, the legendary afro-pop singer and songwriter from Mali, is coming to Namibia in November to perform at the Windhoek Jazz Fstival where he will share the stage with local performers.

Keita’s visit is at the invitation of the City of Windhoek.

At a briefing yesterday, the Windhoek Municipality spokesperson Joshua Amukugo announced that Keita would share the stage with popular South African band Freshly Ground and local artists Shishani, Erna Chimu, Big Ben and Essence, among others.

“Salif Keita is unique and well known for his reputation as being the Golden Voice of Africa,” Amukugo said.

Keita is known for blending elements of a wide range of African music such as traditional with jazz, rhythm and blues, and other international popular music styles.

“We would like to urge everyone to ensure that you guarantee yourself a seat at this year’s Windhoek Jazz Festival by purchasing tickets on time,” he said. Tickets will sell for N$250, he said, adding that tickets would not be sold at the gate.

Amukugo said preparations for the festival were going well.
