A man who escaped from the Windhoek Correctional Facility in May this year, appeared in court on a charge of housebreaking yesterday after he was rearrested while allegedly breaking into a bar in Otjiwarongo.

The 37-year-old Simon Nopi Kambindu was serving a sentence of 51 years when he escaped from the Windhoek Correctional Facility in May this year.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, told Nampa that Kambindu was allegedly caught while busy breaking into a bar at Otjiwarongo’s Orwetoveni residential area around midnight last Thursday.

He appeared in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on a housebreaking charge Monday and was denied bail.

“During his arrest, last Thursday, a zinc cutting tool and a bolt cutter were found in his possession, which prompted us to investigate him further,” said Mbeha.
