Africa had reliable statesman in Chirac: Geingob

President Hage Geingob has expressed his sincere condolences to the people of France and the family of late Former French President Jacques Rene Chirac who died on Thursday morning.

In a Facebook post on Thursday evening Geingob recognised Chirac's contribution towards Africa's development, labelling him as a reliable and passionate statesmen.

According to international media reports, although the cause of the former politician's death is still unknown, he is said to have died surround by his loved-ones.

Chirac who died at the age of 86, served as the French President and ex officio Co-Prince of Andorra from 1995 to 2007.

He was previously the Prime Minister of France from 1974 to 1976 and from 1986 to 1988, as well as the Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995.

He will also be remembered as the first leader to acknowledge France's role in the Holocaust.
