Beijing: China strongly urges India and Pakistan to act in the larger interest of peace and stability and exercise calm and restraint, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Saturday. The spokesperson made the remarks when asked to comment on the escalating tension between India and Pakistan.

According to Namibia Press Agency, media reports indicate that Pakistan accused India of hitting targets, including the Nur Khan air base, in the early morning of May 10. In response, Pakistan has vowed to strike back resolutely and initiated “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos.”

Noting that China is closely following the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan and is deeply concerned about the escalation, the spokesperson emphasized the need for both nations to return to the track of political settlement through peaceful means. China urges both sides to refrain from any action that could further escalate tensions.

The spokesperson further stated that maintaining peace and stability is crucial for the fundamental interests of both India and Pakistan, as well as for a stable and peaceful region. This sentiment is echoed by the international community, which hopes to see a de-escalation of the conflict. China is willing to continue to play a constructive role to help achieve this outcome.
