Chinese and Norwegian Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Global Issues

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Beijing on Tuesday. China views Norway as a significant and stable European partner, as noted by Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. He expressed hope that Norway would maintain a positive, stable, pragmatic, and rational policy toward China.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Wang emphasized the importance of implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries. He urged respect for each other's core interests and concerns, advocating for continued openness and win-win cooperation. Wang stated China's willingness to collaborate with Norway to uphold multilateralism, oppose decoupling and severing supply chains, and promote a more equitable international system.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide reiterated Norway's firm adherence to the one-China policy. He highlighted Norway's role as a leader in Europe's green transition, noting the country's open market for Chinese electric vehicles and a zero-tariff policy. Norwegian companies are optimistic about the Chinese market and are eager to expand investment and cooperation with China.

Eide acknowledged the compatibility of China's Global Governance Initiative with Norway's vision and expressed Norway's willingness to work with China to uphold the spirit of the UN Charter and support a rules-based multilateral trading system. Both sides agreed to strengthen the alignment of their development strategies and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, maritime affairs, green development, and innovation.

The discussion also covered the situation in the Middle East, where both sides agreed on the necessity of implementing the ceasefire agreement. They called on the international community, especially countries with influence over the conflicting parties, to support a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. Both sides advocated for strengthening the authority and governance capabilities of the Palestinian National Authority.
