COVID-19: Namibia records 884 new cases and two deaths

Health and Social Services Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula on Sunday announced that Namibia recorded 884 new

Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and two deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 995.

Shangula said the deaths involve a 64-year-old man and 57-year-old woman from the Windhoek and Rundu districts respectively.

He further said the newly confirmed cases represent a 36 per cent positivity ratio and were identified from 2 468 results received from laboratories in the last 24 hours.

The cases have a gender distribution of 497 female and 387 males, with the youngest being one month old and the oldest, 91 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of positive cases at 292, followed by Hardap at 162, Erongo 125, Oshana 82, Otjozondjupa 66, ||Kharas 32, Oshikoto 29, Kavango East 28 and Omaheke 27. The Omusati Region recorded 14 cases, while Zambezi and Kunene each recorded 11 cases, with Ohangwena accounting for four cases and Kavango West one.

Namibia currently has 9 548 active cases, of which 374 are hospitalised and 61 are in intensive care units, while 25 are in high care.

The health minister further announced 398 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 54 535.

A total of 87 863 persons had received their first doses of the AstraZeneca or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines by Sunday, while 14 686 had received their second doses.
