Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Chairperson Elsie Nghikembua has said the commission is ready to conduct the Ncamagoro by-elections set for Friday.

Nghikembua said this at the end of training attended by 114 recruited election officials at Rundu on Tuesday.

“As we all know by now, it is exactly two days before election day when the polling stations are expected to open at 07h00 and close at 21h00,” she said, before calling on election officials to carry out their duties with integrity, impartiality, transparency, fairness and professionally throughout the process.

She said the 114 election officials recruited make up 18 teams that will oversee seven fixed and 36 mobile stations. The teams will be deployed between 15 and 16 December due to the vastness and remoteness of the constituency.

According to the chairperson, the ECN invited companies to submit bids for the printing of ballot papers as per the guidelines of the Public Procurement Act which was awarded to Solitaire Press.

The verification of the final ballot papers was done on 01 December and printing was done on 11 December.

The ECN is mandated to hold by-elections in order to fill a vacant position created in any constituency within three weeks, she said, while encouraging voters to go out in numbers to exercise their democratic right to vote.

The training ran from 10 to 14 December.
