President Hage Geingob has implored eligible Namibians to get vaccinated, saying vaccination is an important weapon in the arsenal towards reaching herd immunity and defeating COVID-19.

Addressing the public on national television for the 29th COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Geingob said it is disappointing that there are some Namibians posting on social media propagated falsehoods and misleading information regarding the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines.

He said it is important that Namibians take the vaccine and that rumours going around are debunked.

“Let us not abandon our mindsets of caution and mindfulness. Now is not the time to let our guards down, rather now is the time to pull together and reaffirm our resolve to win the war against COVID-19,” said Geingob.

The Head of State further urged every Namibian to become a fighter on the frontline, adding that citizens should now become paragons of discipline and resilience by holding hands to form a united front to overcome COVID-19 as ‘One Namibia, One Nation’.

By Tuesday evening, Namibia administered 91 797 first doses COVID-19 vaccines and 15 999 second doses, with total COVID-19 deaths standing at 882 and COVID-19 related deaths totalling 158.
