A 10-year-old girl identified as Sara Kaliye died on the spot after she was run over by a vehicle at Kambowo village in the Kavango East Region on Friday.

The incident happened at around 17h00 on the Trans-Zambezi Highway when a Toyota Ipsum travelling from Rundu to Divundu hit Kaliye.

Kavango East Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator Bonifasius Kanyetu on Sunday said a case of culpable homicide has been opened.

According to Kanyetu the driver allegedly saw two young girls who ran and crossed the road from right to left but one of the girls made a U-turn and in the process got hit by the driver.

She died a few minutes later before the ambulance arrived on the scene.

Her body was transported to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary and her next of kin have been informed.

In an unrelated incident, an adult male whose age is unknown committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire at Vhungu – Vhungu village.

The incident happened at around 15h00 when the deceased reportedly hanged himself with a wire on a tree planted in his yard.

No foul play is detected and no suicide note was left.

Police investigations in both matters continue.
