Installation of Municipal Services Begins at Nkurenkuru Extension 3

Nkurenkuru: The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) has officially handed over the Nkurenkuru Extension 3 site to S. Shikongo Construction to initiate the development of municipal services for 172 residential plots, with a project cost of N.dollars 14.2 million. The project involves installing essential infrastructure such as water, sewer, and electrical systems, with an expected completion timeline of eight months.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the contractor was appointed on July 16, 2025, following the design phase's completion by Tweya Consulting Engineers, JV D and P Engineers, and Environmental Consultants CC. The project received approval from the Nkurenkuru Town Council. NHE's Acting Executive for Infrastructure Development, Indileni Set-Sam Iipinge, highlighted that the project would generate over 300 jobs, benefiting local contractors, artisans, and building materials suppliers.

Iipinge emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "Today's event is not just a site handover; it is a continuation of a vision that began taking shape right here in Nkurenkuru." The NHE has increased the number of plots from 100 to 172 through subdivision and densification to accommodate more families. This expansion includes additional infrastructure such as manholes to support the increased number of households.

Construction of the first 50 houses is set to begin around April 2026, midway through the servicing phase, to mitigate risks of vandalism and enhance security. In addition, NHE is acquiring 83 fully serviced plots in Nkurenkuru Extension 6, aiming to provide a total of 255 housing units for low-income families over the next 20 months.

The houses will feature NHE's new housing designs, launched on October 29, 2025, by Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa. Iipinge noted, "The new designs reflect our commitment to quality, sustainability, and improved living standards. They incorporate thoughtful architectural features that promote comfort, energy efficiency, and aesthetic appeal."
