Keetmanshoop: The Keetmanshoop Electricity Business Unit (KEBU) has issued a reminder to its residential customers regarding the upcoming deadline to switch from conventional electricity meters to prepaid meters by 01 July 2025. Failure to comply with this directive will result in disconnection of service.
According to Namibia Press Agency, KEBU announced in a statement on Wednesday that the conversion process, which began in May of the previous year for both residential and business customers, is being offered at no cost. The statement emphasized that all existing conventional meters will be replaced with prepaid meters free of charge, and new residential electricity connections will no longer have the option to choose conventional meters.
KEBU highlighted that the shift to prepaid electricity metering is part of a forward-looking strategy aimed at enhancing debt management by requiring customers to pay for electricity in advance. This initiative is also expected to minimize the risk of disconnection and boost overall customer satisfaction. KEBU currently serves 6,000 customers, including both residential and business clients, and projects an annual revenue of N. dollars 120 million for the 2024/2025 financial year.
