Windhoek: The ||Kharas Regional Council has announced the appointment of Megameno Shikongo as the Acting Chief Regional Officer (CRO) following the arrest of former Acting CRO Ralph Sachika by the Anti-Corruption Commission earlier this week.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Shikongo has been serving as the Deputy Director of Rural Services at the regional council. Council chairperson Gerrit Witbooi, speaking on behalf of the council at a press conference, stated that the case regarding Sachika's arrest on Monday, 09 February 2026, is now under the jurisdiction of the courts and relevant law enforcement agencies. Witbooi emphasized that due legal processes must proceed and that the council's responsibility is to ensure that the internal operations of the regional council continue without interruption.

In compliance with Section 23(4) of the Regional Councils Act (Act 22 of 1992), the full council convened and decided to appoint Shikongo as Acting CRO, effective 11 February 2026, for a term of three months or until a permanent CRO is appointed. In the interest of transparency, integrity, and ethical conduct, the council intends to provide accurate and verified information to prevent confusion and speculation during this period.
