Kunene education director wants improved Grade 12 results

Director of Education in Kunene region, Angelina Steenkamp has called on Grade 12 leaners in the region to improve Grade 12 results of the region, when she delivered a motivational speech at Corniuls Goreseb Secondary School in Khorixas today.

Only 39 per cent of Grade 12 learners that sit for examinations have qualified for higher institutions of leaners and the ministry expects more than 70 per cent of learners to qualify.

Steenkamp was addressing to Grade 12 learners of Cornelius Goreseb and Braunfels Agricultural High School in Khorixas in the school.

Only few days are left before the national examination and I need you guys to be serious about your future. These exams will determine whether you have actually learned what you were taught through the years. I want all of you to be honest to yourself and if you have not studied well, than you need to put in extra hours to study, she said.

She added that the future of learners is in their own hands, teachers are only there to educate and motivated them.

Steenkamp said that as the Director of Education she would be going to clubs to make sure that learners are not clubbing but studying.

I know all of you, don't try to hide if you see me. I would advise you all to take this time, study, and stop going to clubs. This is the time that you really need to be serious about your future and who you want to become. It is in your hands. Forget about entrainment, your future is in your hands, you can make it or brake it.

One of the reasons I am here today is to tell you that I believe in you. I want to see all of you prosper in life. You will prosper in life only if you take your education seriously. Do not waste time with playing and entrainment. It will affected your future, she said.

Steenkamp is expected to address Grade 12 learners Outjo Secondary School on Friday.
