Labour ministry mourns Strauss

The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation (MLIREC) has remembered Daan Strauss as a reliable colleague who added significant value to the entire labour fraternity.

Strauss, who served as Secretary General of the Namibian Employers’ Federation (NEF), died on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry expressed that Strauss left a void that would be hard to fill as he was generous and thoughtful in his contributions.

“Strauss never displayed an attitude and deliberate intention of merely seeking to disadvantage other parties,” the statement said.

Aside from being NEF Secretary-General, an employers’ federation registered under the Labour Act ,11 of 2007, Strauss was also a member of the Labour Advisory Council (LAC) from 01 March 2020 and a chairperson of an LAC Technical Committee called Informal Economy Committee.

The Informal Economy Committee was set up to prepare recommendations on how formalisation of the informal economy should take light in of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Recommendation 204.

Additionally, the statement lauded Strauss’ unwavering involvement in labour matters, his constant work ethic in ensuring all the voices of his members were heard on every platform under MLIREC and NEF.
