Leaders must be accessible: Mushelenga

Minister of Urban and Rural Development PeyaMushelenga said, the only way leaders can exchange views with their communities on matters of mutual concern and join forces to address challenges is when they are accessible.

Mushelenga made these remarks on Thursday when he inaugurated the Linyanti Constituency Office in the Zambezi region, which was constructed at the tune of N.dollars 16 million.

He said leaders and communities should join forces to tackle challenges and needs of communities, therefore Councilors and staff should be accessible to their communities to ensure that the plight of people will be attended to efficiently and effectively, as it will help develop the community's sense of ownership and enjoy to actively participate in public affairs and chart the course of their development.

The construction of this office is an accomplishment of one of our mandates, i am certain that this new office will become a token of the sound relationship and service delivery between the Zambezi Regional Council, the Constituency Councilor, the communities which fall under Linyanti Constituency and the entire residents of Zambezi Region in general, said Mushelenga.

He said that the construction of the office attests to the government's commitment to, among others, of decentralisation, finalisation of capital projects and taking services closer to the people.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development has invested a lot of financial resources in order to allow the community of this Constituency access to government services, the construction of this office cost government an amount of N.dollars 16 million to complete. Considering the prevailing economic downturn, this effort if commendable, noted Mushelenga.

He added that the completion of the office is a realization of government's mandates of service delivery and infrastructure development, as the line Ministry attach it as a great important project related to taking government infrastructure to rural areas.
