Long Course Swimming Series Starts in October

The Bank Windhoek Long Course Swimming Series is set to start in October and will continue till April 2015.

Bank Windhoek has sponsored the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU) with N$100 000 to host the series with the ultimate goal of developing the sport and grooming swimmers to compete at national and international levels.

The Long Course season includes 10 swimming galas and the five-day Bank Windhoek Namibia National Long Course Swimming Championship.

“Bank Windhoek is proud to be associated with the Namibia Swimming Union as swimming continues to be one of the sport codes in Namibia that performs well at regional and international level,” Sanet de Waal of Bank Windhoek said.

“The participation of our swimmers at these competitions continues to grow and in May this year they won four medals (two gold, one silver and one bronze) at the African Youth Games, which was held in Gaborone, Botswana. Three swimmers also qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from 16-28 August”, she added.

The administration of NASU expressed their gratitude for the generous sponsorship, saying it contributed immensely to the development of the sport. They further encourage anyone who is interested in taking up swimming as a sport to contact NASU for more information.

NASU, which has been operating since the 1950’s, is affiliated to the Namibian Sport Commission (NSC) and the Namibian National Olympic Committee, and internationally with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the African Swimming Federation (CANA).
