Man believed to have committed suicide at Otjiwarongo identified

The man whose body was found hanging from a tree at Otjiwarongo on Saturday, has been identified as 40-year-old Constantine Gustavo.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Monday in an interview with Nampa said the body was identified by the deceased’s relatives.

Mbeha said Gustavo’s body was found in the bushes near the military base at the town after a passerby found a silver Toyota Corolla with Grootfontein registration parked along the road for a prolonged period.

“A team of police officers and members of the Namibian Defence Force were informed, and they teamed up to conduct a search. Not far away from the parked vehicle, his body was found hanging fro. a thorn tree with a shoelace intact around his neck,” said Mbeha.

The police officer further stated that the motive behind this alleged suicide is still unknown, as Gustavo did not leave behind any suicide note.

No foul is suspected so far, and an inquest docket was on Saturday afternoon opened at the Otjiwarongo Police Station.

Police investigations continue.
